THE INSTITUTE OF BIOLOGICAL RESEARCHES

The Institute of Biological Research(IBR) is founded as Center of Biological Research at 1978 and as Institute at 1990. This Institute belongs to the Academy of Sciences. The founders are the academicians Prof. Kole Paparisto and Prof. Teki Tartari.

Fields of activity

1. The study and the generalization in the national level about the situation of plant resources through the expeditions on terrain to enrich and to keep in efficiency the National Herbarium and through the scientific, analytic and generalizing publications.
   
2. The study in the regional or national level on the ecology of plant and animal natural ecosystems to give recommendations to the governmental instances about the damage level of flora and fauna from the pollution and about the measures for the improvement of the situation and for the conservation of nature in Albania.
   
3. The studies in the field of genetics, plant physiology, biochemistry and biophysics of different cultivars, mutants and about the effect of abiotic stress to help the program of genetic improvement of agricultural crops.
   
4. The use of new biotechnological methods on the genetic improvement, on the plant micropropagation and on the preservation of germoplasm of agricultural crops and spontaneous plants.
   
5. The study and the use of microorganisms (non-patogen) with industrial and agricultural importance through the enrichment and the maintenance of scientific microorganisms collection.
   
6. The consulting and the scientific qualifying activities in the national range about the problems of identification of spontaneous flora, the methods of ecological, biotechnological, genetic, physiological study of plants and the biochemistry of plants under the stress.
