THE INSTITUTE OF HYDROMETEOROLOGY
Organization
Department of Meteorology
Department of Environment
Technical Laboratory
Department of Hydrology
This department is composed of four sections:
Section of Hydrometry
Section of surface water hydrology
Section of Maritime Hydrology
Section of groundwater Hydrology
Section of Hydrometry
The main duty of this section is:
- to construct and maintain the hydrometric network in
Albania
- to make the observations and to analyze the hydrometric
data
- to prepare the hydrological bulletin, the hydrological advices and guides for different hydrometric practices.
This section studies the hydrological peculiarities of every year.
Section of surface water hydrology
The study objects of the Surface Water Sector are: rivers and
lakes.
Among the tasks of this section are:
- the elaboration of the hydrological data (water level, discharge and sediment transport);
- the publication of the yearly hydrological bulletin
- the establishment and updating of the hydrological database
- the hydrological studies
The scientific activity of specialists consists in
Hydrological studies such as:
- rationalization of the hydrological parameters
- water balance
- floods
- implication of the climate change on water cycle
- frequency analyses
- analyses of dry spells
- evaporation and evapotranspiration
- water strategy
- sediment transport, etc
Publication of the scientific articles in national and international conferences
Participation on national and international projects
Trainings in VITUKI ( Budapest ), IHE-Delft, EPFL ( Lausanne ) etc.
Main results of this section are compiling of monograph, prepare and publication of the hydrological studies, technical reports, scientific articles, hydrological guides, etc.
Staff: 4 hydrologists (2 Assoc Prof. Dr., 2 Doctors)
Section of Maritime Hydrology
The main duties of this section are:
- The monitoring of abiotic peculiarities and hydrologic regime along the Adriatic and Ionian coast and in the lagoon system, that comprises complex hydrometric observations on water level, temperature, waves, water flow, transparency, O2 content, pH, salinity, etc.
- Hydrologic studies, such as tallasographic, limnologic and hydrogeomorphologic
- tallasographic studies investigate main aspects of natural peculiarities of marine water, such as level regime, wave process, mechanism of water masses circulation, stratification, salinity, etc.
- limnologic studies assess the natural conditions of lagoon system,
such as evapotranspiration process, dynamic of water conversion, level regime, water balance, etc.
- hydrogeomorphologic studies evaluate main aspects of coast dynamics such as the coast abrasion and accumulation process, granulometry, horizontal transport of sediments, wave refraction, etc.
Possibilities for cooperation:
The section offers hydrologic studies for navigation, design and construction of the harbors, fisheries, agriculture, biodiversity preservation, etc
Staff: 3 hydrologists (1 Professor, 1 Assoc. Prof. Dr.),
Section of groundwater Hydrology
The object of study of this section is the water in aquifers. This water is studied as it comes out through springs and wells
Main tasks of this section are:
- Measurement of the water level and discharge
- Establishment and updating of the hydrological database
- Processing and publication of annual hydrological bulletins
Scientific activity of specialists of the Groundwater Section consists in:
Hydrological studies such as:
- Water-comunication of aquifers
- Ragionalization of the hydrological parameters
- Water strategy
Publication of the scientific articles in national and international conferences
Participation on the national and international projects
Staff: 2 hydrologist ( one Dr )
