Department of Systems and Networks

The tasks of Department are

• Design, development, implementation and maintenance of data network services.
• Implementation and maintenance of operating systems as Ms-Windows and Unix.
• Analysis and implementation of computer network architectures and protocols.
• Development, implementation, distribution and maintenance of Internet services.
• Design, installation and maintenance of computer and network infrastructure.
• Training on networking and Internet technologies and services.

The main results of Department are:

• Design and implementation of the first metropolitan computer network in Tirana (1985, project of UNDP).
• Design and implementation of local computer networks at INIMA, Academy of Sciences and some of its Institutes.
• Participation in European and regional projects as Y-NET and BalkanNet, for the extension of international networks and services in Central and Eastern European countries.
• Design, implementation and distribution of Internet services dedicated for the research community in Albania (in collaboration with Soros Foundation).
• Training on networking and Internet services (in collaboration with Soros Foundation and Department of Electronics of Polytechnic University of Tirana).

The specialists have this scientific activity:

• Participation in 3 national projects for development.
• Participation in 3 European projects in the framework of Programme Copernicus.
• Participation in 1 project of UNDP for building the metropolitan network in Tirana.
• Participation in 1 project of NATO for the development of the Academic Network.
• Participation in the Internet project of Soros Foundation.
• Part-time lectures at the University of Tirana, in informatics and mathematics.
• There are 3 books published in Albania.
• There are 8 papers published and/or presented in Albanian and foreign journals and scientific activities.
• Training and specialization at the Bull France Training Center for operating systems and networks.
• Training in CEENet workshops for networking and Internet technologies and services.
• Training in NATO & CEENet workshops for network management and policies.

Possibilities of cooperation and services are:

• Design, development, installation and maintenance of computer and data networks.
• Development, implementation and maintenance of Internet applications and services.
