Late Antiquity and Middle Ages Department. (V - XV century AD)
This Department deals with the Palaeobyzantine and Byzantine periods and the ethno-cultural processes of the passage from the Antiquity to Middle Ages. The principal excavations were done in most important Late Antiquity centres such as
Berat, Butrint, Bylis, Kanine, Lezhe, Paleokaster, Pogradec,
Symize, Zharre, etc in the palaeochristian cult buildings like Lini's
triconch, the Ballshi, Tepe, Amantia, Mesaplik basilicas, etc. The excavations of the Middle Ages period were done in
Koman, Lezhe, Shurdhah, Cinamak, Klos, Kruje, Dyrrach cemeteries, as well as in many medieval castles throughout the Albanian territory.
The Late Antiquity and Middle Ages Department is continuing many projects with fellow foreign institutions such as:
