Museums

There five Archaeological museums under the jurisdiction of the Institute of Archaeology.

The Archaeological Museum of Tirana.

It was founded on 1948 and presents the main results of the Archaeological research and finds of the Albanian territory from Prehistory until Middle Ages. There are over 2.000 objects exhibited and a reserve fund of over 20.000 objects. 

The Archaeological Museum of Durres.

It was founded on 1951 with objects gathered after War World II in the town. Systematic research for over 50 years added to this collection a great variety of objects (now over 20.000). The museum presents the life of this ancient town from its foundation until the Middle Ages and is organized according to a combined chronological/ topical criterion. 

The Archaeological Museum of Apolonia.

It was founded in 1958 in the monastery's surroundings, which is within the territory of the ancient town and was reconstructed on 1985. It gives a broad information on the all aspects of life of this town, which together with the monuments discovered in the center of the town give a complete understanding if its historical development.

The Archaeological Museum of Butrint. 

It was founded on 1950 in the surroundings of the Butrint's Venetian fortress. The archaeological material exhibited here shows the phases of town's life and the periods of its prosperity and collapse.

The Prehistoric Museum of Korca.

It was founded on 1988 based on a very rich prehistoric material, especially of Korce and Kolonje areas.
